DR THOMAS LEUNG
Associate Director Comprehensive Oncology Centre Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital Hong Kong Dr Thomas Leung is currently Associate Director of the Comprehensive Oncology Centre, Director of Clinical Trial Centre in Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital in Hong Kong. Dr Leung graduated from Hong Kong University in 1984, was appointed lecturer in Department of Clinical Oncology of the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1988. He has obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1995. He was Professor in the Department of Clinical Oncology from 1996 to 2003. He has published 170 peer reviewed scientific papers, most in non-surgical treatment for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. His main research interests are in treatment of advanced stage hepatocellular carcinoma with systemic therapy, internal radiation therapy and local ablative therapy. He pioneered in the use of yttrium 90 microspheres and lipiodol iodine-131 for liver cancer more than 20 years ago. After leaving Chinese University of Hong Kong in September 2003, he was appointed the current position until now. He also holds an Honorary Clinical Associate Professorship from Chinese University of Hong Kong University since 2003. Dr Leung is still active as principal investigators for various clinical trials, consultant to major pharmaceutical companies, serves as independent data safety committee for multicenter clinical trials, member of many international steering committees to publish consensus in systemic therapy and locaregional therapy for liver cancer.
